How do you top a #1 hit single on SirusXM for 4 consecutive weeks? It’s easy. Just release a very well written sentimental piece called “Carolina”. That is exactly what this new country rock band did back in February of 2013. They are called Parmalee, and I promise you, this is a band you are going to hear a lot about in the coming months.
After releasing their first single on Stoney Creek Records, “Musta Had a Good Time”, next came their second single entitled “Carolina”. This is a song of relationships. At first, you think this is going to be one of those “sapping chick” songs, but then you realize “Carolina” runs much deeper. It’s a song about home, and where the heart is. Whether you are in the military overseas, or living in another part of the country, or simply lost living in a major city, this song has something that we all miss. I love the line, “She feels like Carolina, looks like California, shines like those New York lights.“ It’s like no matter where you are, there is always something that reminds us of home.
At times, I feel like I’m listening to some Cowboy Mouth or even an alternative rock band, Better than Ezra, with even a dash of Mötley Crüe. But Parmalee is truly someone with their own unique flavor. They have a clean smooth feel good sound that will make your country rock. The production is also very well done, with the harmonies tight and close. The instrumentals are classic as well. These guys can really play. I love the guitar in the background giving it that little country swing.
On one last note, If you ever get a chance to see these guys play somewhere, please don’t try to rob them after the concert. The last guy who did that is not with us anymore.
